Transformations

I think the best way to understand what I do is to hear what it's actually like. I want to share something more tangible than my theory. Here's a glimpse of the real experience of real people going through something and letting style be part of how they move through it.

These are some of the women I've worked with. Their stories are shared with permission, and I'm so grateful to each of them.

Alex came to me during a huge career shift. She'd spent years doing intimate, one-on-one mental health work, and she was stepping into something completely different — co-founding a community nonprofit, suddenly visible, suddenly organizing events and running meetings and representing something bigger than herself.

Alex came to me during a huge career shift. She'd spent years doing intimate, one-on-one mental health work, and she was stepping into something completely different — co-founding a community nonprofit, suddenly visible, suddenly organizing events and running meetings and representing something bigger than herself.

She needed clothes for all of it. But when we started talking, I heard something underneath the practical stuff. Alex had been minimizing herself for a long time. She was doing this brave, genuinely-needed-in-the-world kind of work — and she kept focusing on her inexperience. On what she couldn't do yet. The real threshold was even deeper than the visible career change. It was letting herself claim that she was worth being seen.

The real threshold was even deeper than the visible career change. It was letting herself claim that she was worth being seen.

So we built a visual concept around who she actually is. Warm, magical, a natural guardian of community. And then we translated that into real clothes. A corset top with an intricate wallpaper print, little details everywhere you look. A velvet jacket with celestial embroidery — powerful and soft at the same time.

These are not typical nonprofit director clothes. And that's what we wanted! They don't put Alex into a nondescript "serious person" wrapper. They ask Alex to show up as herself, the whole sparkly magical kindhearted woman that she is.

I told Rita that I can get stuck with pulling the trigger on buying items and get stuck in an infinite loop of seeking the One Perfect Item. Rita really helped pull me out of that and I was able to purchase items that I love and feel so excited to wear. One of the most incredible things about working with Rita is that she is able to see you as you truly are. Threshold Styling has been an incredible gift to myself and I cannot recommend it enough." -- Alex

Daniella is a weight loss coach building her brand and social media presence. When we started working together, she was keeping things minimal on camera. Clean, simple, blank-canvas energy. The idea was to look professional and let the content do the talking. Which kind of makes sense, right?

But it wasn't working. Because that's not who Daniella is. What we discovered was kind of the opposite of what she expected: the more she added, the more she came into focus. Statement glasses. Chunky bangles. A unique blazer with a slinky top underneath. We were aiming for three points of strong visual interest in every outfit — which sounds like a lot, but on her it looks completely natural and let's her natural energy come out with ease.

We came up with clear outfit formulas for filming. And then there was one change that transformed everything: swapping her sneakers for heeled ankle boots. Does that sound like a small change? For Daniella, that one swap unlocked a new level of personal power and confidence. It was like a daily reminder that she's allowed to take up space and step into her new era. She stopped trying to disappear behind her content and started showing up as the full, magnetic person she actually is.

"I'm still taking you with me, in my imagination, as I shop — remembering 'I can wear what no one else dares.' Just yesterday I walked out of a thrift store wearing the most amazing perfect-for-me 100% silk animal print shirt — they had to cut the tags off while it was still on my body. It all felt so easy and playful, and yet SO powerful."

Rita brings a gentle calm and emotional safety that I have truly NEVER felt in any style conversation — it's rare even among all the coaches and experts I've met. Our first step was to go beyond aesthetics and trends and build from the base layer of IDENTITY — who am I, and how can we create a style logic that is always subject to that? Once we established that, we came back up and she helped me with specific brands, shapes, and cohesive looks. She plays in the philosophical AND practical, and does it all with gentle love." —Daniella

hope

hope

Hope is stepping away from her work in social work, focusing on being with her family, and her threshold was a powerful emotional transformation rather than a big career move or a public-facing change. Together we did the the slow work of learning to soften, to slow down, and to listen inward.

Hope is stepping away from her work in social work, focusing on being with her family, and her threshold was a powerful emotional transformation rather than a big career move or a public-facing change. Together we did the the slow work of learning to soften, to slow down, and to listen inward.

Here's the thing. There's a whole cultural script about what "grown-up" women are supposed to dress like. Practical and serious and not too sweet. And Hope had gotten that script but a big part of her wanted sweetness, softness, cuteness. It was difficult to want those things while feeling that they weren't her, wrong for her life, wrong for her Kibbe body type, etc. Our work together was about welcoming that part of her back in and making it hers.

The biggest change for Hope wasn't visual. We did get some really sweet new prints, a perfect fun lounge set to make home time more special. The biggest thing we did was to develop style rituals Hope could return to. This practice actually moved her attention from the product to the process. And with that came so many moments of self-love and patience. Hope stopped trying to arrive at a finished, perfect look and started enjoying the becoming and enjoying actually listening to her self.

Every story is different. The clothes are different, the thresholds are different, the breakthroughs are different. But the thing that stays the same is this: when someone finally sees their own gifts and lets their style reflect that, something opens up. It's not just about the wardrobe. It's about how they feel moving through the world.

If you're reading these stories and thinking "I want that" — I'd love to help.
